Merry Christmass and Happy Holidays from the Maritime Hockey League! As we prepare to ring in 2019, the action gets back underway with a home and home series between the Eastlink North Division-leading Summerside Western Capitals (20-5-0-0) and the Valley Wildcats (5-19-3-0). The first game is in Berwick on Saturday, with a return date in Summerside on New Year’s Eve.

Valley split their last two games before the Christmas Break, both on the road, with a 5-4 win over South Shore (12-10-3-0) and then a 3-1 loss to Truro (16-10-1-1). Summerside have posted a 4-1 record in December, with the only blemish being a 5-4 loss in Grand Falls (7-16-3-1) on the 21st. The Western Caps finished their pre-Christmas schedule with a convincing 9-1 win over Edmundston (15-10-3-0).

Despite a tough season for the Wildcats, they’ve posted a 4-7-1-0 record at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick. Summerside, meanwhile, is 11-1-0-0 at Credit Union Place. Expect a packed crowd on For the Monday game as Summerside have made it a free game!

Statistically Speaking

Winning percentage is an easy way to look at how teams are doing over the course of a season. With three-point games, including overtime and shootout losses, it’s not as easy as just charting wins and losses. Now we have to calculate it as a percentage of a team’s point divided by the maximum amount of points a team could have gained. Here’s a look at the 2018-19 season so far. The lines for each team, of course, only extend as far as the number of games they’ve played.
