St. Michael’s (OJHL) Green named CJHL’s Top Defenceman Award winner

TORONTO – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) announced Friday that David Green of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s St. Miachael’s Buzzers has been named its Top Defenceman Award winner for the 2023-24 campaign.

Green won the award over fellow Top Defenceman finalists Brody Mortensen, Canmore Eagles (AJHL); Noah Szabo, Steinbach Pistons (MJHL); Olivier Beaudoin, West Kent Steamers (MHL) and Noah Houle, Flin Flon Bombers (SJHL), after a voting process completed by the CJHL’s nine-member leagues, for their respective efforts during the course of the regular season.

The 17-year-old blueliner from Toronto, was previously named the OJHL’s Defenceman of the Year.

Green has committed to attend NCAA Division I Merrimack College on scholarship and skate for the Warriors men’s program beginning with the 2025-26 season.

He was tabbed 122nd overall, among North American skaters, by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas.

Leading all OJHL blueliners in goals (18) and points (57), Green also tallied twice, and added an assist, to pace the East to victory in the OJHL Prospects Game, earning his squad’s player of the game honours.

“We are really happy for Greener (Green),” said Buzzers head coach and general manager Rich Ricci.

“He is a dedicated player, that is confident, but still aspiring to get better. He’s going to be a very good D-man, when you project him out with four or five more years of development,” summarized Ricci.
