The final game of the decade in the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) takes place New Year’s Eve in Summerside as the nationally-ranked Western Capitals host the Fredericton Red Wings at Credit Union Place. The puck drops at 5 p.m., and there are no tickets for this game. The doors open at 4 p.m., with season ticket holders still able to grab their seats. This is the fifth of eight meetings this season between the two clubs. Summerside won the first meeting 7-2 in Fredericton on September 21st and followed that up with a 5-2 victory on home ice on November 2nd. The game on November 30th in Summerside turned into one of the most exciting of the MHL season as the Red Wings prevailed in a 15-round shootout to down the Western Capitals 5-4. A rematch the following week at Grant-Harvey Centre went to the visitors, as Summerside handed the Red Wings a 7-3 loss.
