The Merrimack College men’s hockey team has announced that Summerside Western Capitals forward Mark Hillier will be among ten newcomers to the NCAA Division I program for the 2021-22 season.
The 19-year-old from Labrador City, Labrador played three seasons with St. Andrew’s College before joining Summerside last season. Hillier has a school record of 213 points in 158 games in his St. Andrew’s career, including 112 points his final season. He earned a trio of CISAA championships during his time with the Saints and was named the Team MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and St. Andrew’s College Athlete of the Year in his final year.
With the Western Capitals, Hillier finished third in team scoring with thirteen goals and thirteen assists in eighteen games. He placed fourth in rookie scoring across the MHL and tied with Edmundston’s Joshua Nadeau for the most goals among all rookies. During the Canadian Tire Cup Playoff Round Robin, Hillier was second in league scoring with three goals and four assists in five games, only trailing teammate Justin Ertel.
Hillier was named Pro Design Cresting Top Rookie for January/February and a Rookie All-Star at centre for the 2020-21 season. He was also named a Player of the Week once this season.
