The Tigers would like to announce that Pierre-Luc Lurette has committed to Ontario Tech University, formerly the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. He will join the Ridgebacks men’s hockey team for the 2019-20 season.
The 20-year-old defenseman from Val-d’Amour, N.B. is one of the ew players to have spent five full seasons in the Maritime Hockey League, all of them with the Tigers. A territorial selection by Campbellton in the 2014 draft, Lurette tallied four goals and nine assists in 43 games in 2014-15. The next season, he would score three goals to go with 12 assists in 42 games in addition to one goal and two assists in seven playoff games.
His offensive numbers would take off after that as the durable defenseman would only miss two games over the next three seasons. In 2016-17, Lurette had seven goals and 26 assists in 50 games, finishing third in team scoring. He would go on to lead the Tigers in scoring from the blueline in his final two seasons. In 2017-18, Lurette scored a career-high 19 goals and added 22 assists playing in all 50 games. He was also an alternate captain for the Tigers and named to the All-Star Team. Lurette added one goal and two assists in five playoff games.
Playing his final year in 2018-19, and serving as captain, Lurette had 18 goals and 30 assists for a career-best 48 points in 48 games to lead his team and all MHL defensemen (tied with Summerside’s Conor MacEachern). His four goals and one assist, along with steady play on defense, would help lead the Tigers to the final of the Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs. For the second year in a row, Lurette would also be named to the All-Star Team.
