The Miramichi Timberwolves have announced that forward Spencer Blackwell has committed to Lakehead University for the 2021-22 season.
The 21-year-old from Erin, ON arrived in the MHL via the Truro Bearcats for the 2019-20 season. Blackwell had 26 goals and 40 assists in 48 games to finish third in team scoring and twelfth in league scoring. His assist total was second-most on the Bearcats and placed him eleventh in the MHL. He was dealt to Miramichi after the 2020 MHL Entry Draft to complete a trade between the two teams from earlier in the season.
In 2020-21, Blackwell had 18 goals and 14 assists in 25 games for the Timberwolves. That placed him in a four-way tie for the fourth-most goals in the league. His eight powerplay goals were second-most. Blackwell was one of two players to score two shootout goals this season, the most in the league, and both were game-winners. During the Canadian Tire Cup Playoff Round Robin, Blackwell had one goal and two assists in four games, with another four assists thus far in the Eastlink North playoffs.
The MHL congratulates Blackwell on his post-secondary commitment.
